about me

I'm Emilio and, with dialog.care, I offer inner dialogue support, conflict mediation, and training for individuals, couples, traders, and other personal and professional relationships. This practice is based on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and Theory of Mind, aiming to foster connection even in disagreement.

I see emotions as sensations that point to something really important to me, like my core values, or needs. Whether positive or negative, emotions are just letting me know that I care about something that is, indeed, very valuable to me. Welcoming emotions as pointers, as data, rather than obstacles, is a first step toward growth.

I have spent the last decade trying to understand intimate core values, value-forming processes, and social values. In that process, I have always expressed my interest from a multidisciplinary point of view and, as a result, I wrote texts, created art, directed films, and presented exhibitions at international art venues. Since 2018, I have focused my attention on the research of emotions and, while learning from dozens of scientists and experts on emotions, I created EMOTIONAL, an international symposium that gathered neuroscientists, psychologists, sociologists, historians, essayists, artists, and Nonviolent Communication practitioners.

It was also in 2018 when I started my NVC education. Today I have completed more than 1000 hours of training, as well as assisting other NVC trainers. From my point of view, NVC embodies and puts into practice what the latest neuroscience confirms to be the most reliable way of understanding the psychology of emotions.

My main sources of inspiration in this journey have been Lisa Feldman Barrett Ph.D., Marshall Rosenberg Ph.D., Yoram Mosenzon, Bonno Lange, Miki Kashtan, Daisy Delgado, Cara Crisler, Nadine Helm, and dozens of peers and colleagues who shared empathy and vulnerability with me. They all contributed to bringing together my own research of the narrative of the self, with the science of emotions and the practice of NVC.

As a Spanish who lives in Amsterdam, and whose family is multiracial, I have a close attention for the emotional experiences of expats, minorities, and multicultural relationships. As an expression of this interest, I co-created the curriculum and taught at the Cultural Diversity department of one of the art universities I served at. Besides this, I have devoted myself to education since 2006, and have shared experiences with students of all ages, including more than 11 years teaching at different Universities for the Arts in the Netherlands.
